Commission Info

Commissioned paintings are a wonderful way to commemorate a moment, whether it be your own, or that of a loved one. They are a beautiful way to relay a special message! The first step is deciding on what that message is, and finding photos that correspond. I need reference photos that are good quality, with clear images. What I like to do is ask for a handful of digital or scanned photos, and pick the one that inspires me the most. Please be patient with me if I ask for more photos. If you are local to my area, I might request to meet with you to take my own photos for reference. I will discuss and confirm with you on the photo before proceeding. I require a deposit of 20% to begin, and the the rest upon completion.

I want to mention that I work best when I'm free to paint with creative inspiration. I will discuss your vision with you, to get an idea of what you're hoping for, and do the best I can to bring that vision to fruition through my artistic perspective.

I paint on one of three surfaces - cold press watercolour paper, hot press watercolour paper, and watercolour ground. I will make the decision of which surface to use, after an in depth conversation with you about the vision for your piece. Often, one surface will lend to a particular style that would better suit a specific piece. I will be sure to thoroughly explain my choices with you!

Each piece will be on a wood cradle, and finished with archival varnish, wax, and no frame. Finishing this way allows you to hang your art without protective glass. You can also choose to have it framed, once you receive your art.

The mediums I use are professional watercolour, ink, gouache, and coloured pencils, though, the majority of my work is watercolour. Please keep in mind that watercolour cannot be changed much, once I lay it down, and doesn't allow for very many adjustments. This is why I'll ask you lots of questions before I begin, to get a good, solid idea of what you're looking for! I won't send any progress photos until I'm about 95% finished with your painting, for your final approval, at which point I accept the final payment, and shipping fees. Shipping fees are entirely dependant on where the piece is going, and its size.

I offer portraits in different sizes, which includes one person/animal/object. These are my most common sizes, but we can chat about other options if what you're looking for isn't listed here. I also paint pieces as large as 24x40, so please don't hesitate to inquire!

  • 8x10 - $300
  • 9x12 - $405
  • 10x14 - $525

Each additional person/creature/object is $50.
